The population consists of ethnicities of Papua, and notable Malay community. The main occupation is agriculture with the products include rice, corn (maize), coconuts, sandalwood, cotton, and coffee. Small- and medium-scale manufacturing activities include cotton spinning, weaving, dyeing, pharmaceutical production, and tanning. Two major cities in East Nusa Tenggara are Kupang and Ende.
