The major products of manufacturing in the regions are milled rice, beverages, chemicals, rubber goods, cement, processed coffee, woven cloth, paper, palm oil, metalware, carved wood, mats and baskets. In the mining sector there are silver, tin, iron ore and nickel; teak and rattan are their forestry products. In the agricultural sector their products are rice, corn (maize), copra (dried coconut meat), coffee, spices, vegetable oil, soybeans, sweet potatoes, and sugarcane.
Makassar is the capital city, in addition, Palopo, Parepare, Singkang and Watampone are also major cities in the province. The populations are mainly Bugis and Makassarese with Toraja residing on the highland areas.
