Scholarship Programme for Diaspora Children for academic session 2018-19

Government of India launched a scheme called "Scholarship Programme for Diaspora Children" (SPDC), in the academic year 2006-2007, for the wards of Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs) and Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) to assist them in pursuing Under Graduate courses in Indian Universities/Institutes. 

Under SPDC scheme financial assistance for specific undergraduate courses in Professional and Non-Professional courses (except Medical and related courses)is provided towards tuition fee, admission fee and post admission services. The scheme is applicable to NRIs and PIOs.

The scholarship for academic year 2018-19 has been announced and the details of the programme including eligibility criteria and programme guildelines, are available at SPDC portal spdcindia.gov.in.
Interested applicants may apply through the SPDC Portal and submit the hard copy of the application to Consulate General of india, Bali alongwith supporting documents latest by 30 September 2018.

SPDC – Salient Features

The Scholarship Programme for Diaspora Children (SPDC) is introduced by the Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs (MOIA) .The SPDC is applicable for NRI and PIO students for undergraduate studies in Professional and General Courses. The Programme is applicable to Indian Diaspora from 40 selected countries, having larger concentration of Persons of Indian origin. Scholarship shall be provided to 100 selected students, out of which 50 seats are reserved for PIOs.

  1. Eligibility Criterion:
  1. Date of Birth:

The SPDC is open for applicants in the age group of 17 to 21 years as on 1st of October of the year of admission for higher studies.

  1. Residence:

The Indian Nationals must have had at least 3(three) years of education in foreign countries during the last 6(Six) years and must have passed the qualifying examination inclusive of 11th and 12th standard or equivalent.

  1. Academic Qualifications:

Student must have passed 10+2 with at least 60% marks in aggregate .Candidates appearing for the qualifying exam can also apply.

  1. Income Limit :

Family monthly income should not exceed US$ 2250.

  1. Short listing & Selection Process:

 Short-Listing & selection process will be based on a Common Entrance Test, which will is held at designated centers in the listed countries of the scheme.

 Placement of the selected students based on the common entrance test shall be based on the percentage obtained by the student in their 12th standard.

  1. Financial Assistance:

Students are entitled to get the scholarship to the extend of 75% of the Institutional Economic Cost (IEC) subject of maximum of US$ 3600 per annum. IEC includes the tuition fees, hostel fees and other institutional charges .The grant of scholarship for the subsequent years(2nd year onwards) shall be based on the academic performance of the student.

  1. Disbursement of Scholarship:

Admissible amount of scholarship shall be remitted by Ed.CIL directly to be concerned Institute/University on annual basis.

  1. Assistance Provided By Ed.CIL:

 Scholarship would be administered by MOIA through Ed.CIL.

  1. Courses of Study and Institutions:

 Engineering /Architecture/Technology, Humanities/Liberal Arts, Commerce, and Management: BBA /BBM, Journalism, Hotel Management, Agriculture/Animal Husbandary, Sciences, Law etc.
