About Us Overview

India today has one of the largest higher education systems in the world.

India has been a centre for learning from time immemorial. Modern-day India is one of the leading countries providing quality higher education to its people as well as to students and scholars from all over the world. The Indian universities and institutes of higher education and research have made significant contribution to transmission of knowledge and have played a leading role to transform the country into a modern industrialized, technologically advanced state. Education in India is not only comparable to the best institutions in the world but also available at a relatively affordable cost. The high quality of education at affordable cost with proximity to Indonesia makes Indian institutions of higher learning the best choice for the Indonesian students to pursue their higher studies.

The Universities and the specialized institutions are the centres for higher learning in India, covering a wide range of subjects from fine arts to computer engineering to space research. Most of the universities have a federal structure composed of affiliated colleges on one tier and the university departments on the other. The affiliated colleges teach, in general, undergraduate courses, whereas the University departments conduct postgraduate teaching and advanced research. There are also universities and institutions providing technical and professional knowledge.

Currently, there are 634 Universities - 43 Central Universities, 297 State Universities, 129 Deemed Universities, 65 institutions of national importance and 100 private universities - apart from around 33,023 colleges imparting studies in various disciplines, such as Engineering and Technology, Computer Sciences, Information Technology, Bio-technology and Bio-informatics, Medical, Dental, Nursing, Pharmacy and Para-medical, Agriculture/Veterinary Sciences, Dairy Technology and Fisheries, Arts & Fine Arts, Humanities, Social Sciences, Commerce, Science & Management, Hotel Management & Catering Technology, Travel and Tourism, etc. The academic programmes are offered at Vocational Diploma, Under-graduate, Post-graduate and Doctoral levels.

The Indian Education System
The structure of higher education consists of three years of education (after 12 years of school education) leading to a bachelor’s degree in arts and science and 4-5 years in professional fields like engineering and medicine. This is followed by two years of study for a Master’s degree and at least three years or more for a Ph.D. degree.
