- § All visa applicants must submit their visa applications on-line at the following link: indianvisaonline.gov.in.
- § The printed hard copy of the application filed at the on-line link should thereafter be submitted to the Consular Section of the Consulate in person together with two (2) recent photos (4x4 cm) and the requisite visa fee (in Indonesian Rupiah) and with all supporting documents. Submission Timings :
Applications are accepted between 09:00 AM to 12:30 PM (Monday through Friday), except closed holidays.
Important Note:
All visa applicants MUST submit their applications at the Consulate in person to complete the application submission requirement, including bio-metrics procedure. It is the responsibility of the Applicant to file the on-line application with correct particulars, as per details in his/her passport, and to seek the appropriate type, number of entries and period of visa.Please ensure that all the columns of the Visa Application Form are filled in and the application is signed. The full addresses of the two references – one each in Indonesia and India - should be completely given. Incomplete applications may not be processed. It is advised not to apply for more than two weeks in advance unless there are other travel plans. The itinerary should be shown indicating the date of departure and valid reason to apply for visa in advance.
Processing Time:
Applications received from the Indonesian citizens as well as citizens of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste for Tourist Visa are processed and visa endorsed on the same day.The time taken for processing of visa applications from applicants other than Indonesia & Timor-Leste will be a minimum of four (4) working days after the date of submission of visa application.The status of Visa Application can be seen on the link for Visa Enquiry.
Following documents are required to be submitted for all categories of visa:
Visa application form: Signed hard copy of the online filed application form.
Passport: It should have a minimum validity of six months and at least two blank visa pages
Photographs: 2 latest colour, matt (not glossy) finished passport size photographs of 4x4 cm size depicting front pose against white background are required. One of them should be pasted in the specified place and the other may be stapled with the application form.
Supporting documents: The visa applications should be accompanied with the supporting documents according to the type of visa applied for.
Additional requirements for non-Indonesian visa applicants:
Applicants who are not citizens of Indonesia should submit a copy of their KITAS/KIMAS/DINAS.
Applicants who are not citizens/ residents of Indonesia and hold a tourist or other short-term visa for Indonesia should normally apply for Indian visas in the countries of their permanent residence
However, in case of emergency or special circumstance, an application could be made at the Consulate in the prescribed manner. In addition to the relevant visa fee, they should remit an additional IDR 142,000 for reference to be made to the country of their origin. The processing time in such cases is usually 4-5 working days.
Emergency issue of Visa:
In case visa is applied for on weekends and holidays, an emergency charge of IDR 413,000 is levied for issue of visa on the same day. Emergency Services are granted on Saturdays and National Holidays in case of a genuine emergency like death or illness of a blood relation, subject to production of proof and confirmed air ticket. The applicants may wish to enquire from the concerned officer about arrangements for such emergency service. The decision of the consular officer in this matter shall be final.
Important Note: All persons of Indian origin who have acquired Indonesian citizenship are advised to surrender their Indian passports for cancellation and return. One of the requirements for applying for PIO card is the cancelled Indian passport.
These are general guidelines. In case of any other requirements that are needed to be fulfilled by the applicants the same will need to be provided.
Types of Visas
Tourist Visa
It is issued for the purpose of sight-seeing and family visit. The application for the same should be accompanied with the following documents :
- Confirmed return ticket or print out of the confirmed to and fro journey.
- Photo copy of Passport pages containing particulars of the applicant.
- Statement of the bank account of the applicant, in original, for last six months.
- Confirmation of Hotel booking at the place of intended visit in India; or
- Letter of invitation/sponsorship from India with a copy of sponsor’s passport or Identity card. In case of a foreigner inviting to stay in India, a copy of his/her valid Indian visa should also be attached.
The Tourist Visa is non-convertible and non-extendable.
The Tourist Visa is issued for a period as per the itinerary of the planned visit up to a maximum period of six months, whichever is less. A gap of minimum of two months should be maintained in respect of nationals from certain countries between each visit to India. In case of emergency, re-entry permit is permissible with the approval of the Head of Post. The reason to re-enter India before completion of two months gap has to be justified with supporting documents.
Tourist Visa on Arrival for Indonesian National
In order to promote tourism between India and Indonesia, the Tourist Visa on Arrival (TVOA) scheme has been introduced for the citizens of Indonesia w.e.f. January 2011.
The TVOA is allowed for a maximum validity of 30 days with single entry facility by the Immigration Officers at Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Kolkata Airports on payment of a fee of US$ 60 or equivalent amount in Indian Rupees per passenger (including children). TVOA is allowed for a maximum of two times in a calendar year to an Indonesian national with a minimum gap of two months between each visit. TVOA shall be non-extendable and non-convertible.
Indonesian nationals may also avail of TVOA for up to 30 days for medical treatment, for casual business or to visit friends/relatives, etc. The TVOA facility is NOT applicable to the holders of Diplomatic/Official Passports. Further, TVOA shall not be granted to the Indonesian national who have permanent residence or occupation in India. Such persons can visit India on normal visa, as applicable.
Required documents :
- § Passport with a minimum of six (6) months validity
- § Two (2) recent passport size photographs (4x4 cm)

- § Confirmation of Hotel reservation, if possible
- § Return air ticket

Transit Visa:
It is valid for single/double entry for a maximum stay of 72 hours and issued for bona fide transit purpose only. A copy of the airline ticket needs to be enclosed. One month’s single entry Transit visa is issued for Seamen.
Business Visa:
- § Confirmed return ticket or print out of the confirmed to and fro journey.
- § Photo copy of Passport pages containing particulars of the applicant.
- § Letter of request/guarantee from the company in Indonesia indicating nature of Applicants’ Business and position held in the Company (in English only)/
- § In case the person is self-employed, copy of his bank statement in original and his business card
- § Letter of invitation, in original, from the company in India. It should clearly indicate the period of invitation. (Company’s letter head- fax/scanned copy only/ E mail communication without signature is not acceptable).
- § Company Registration Certificate
The Business Visa is granted for short visits to India for engaging in business or attending business meetings/negotiations. Stay or seeking employment under Business visa is illegal. The Business Visa is non-extendable and non- convertible.
The Business Visa is given for a maximum period of one (1) year with multiple entries. All Business Visa holders are required to register with FRRO (Foreigner Regional Registration Office) if the continuous period of stay is more than 180 days.
The Business Visa to foreigners (Non-Indonesians) is issued from countries of their domicile where their residence is more than two years. If it is less, prior clearance is sought from Missions where the applicant has permanent residence. They should apply at least one week in advance.
Employment Visa :
The Employment Visa is issued for a maximum period of one year or the term of contract, whichever is less, in order to enable the qualified professional / highly skilled personnel to work in India on remuneration of not less than US$ 25,000 (United States Dollars Twenty Five Thousand) per year at a senior level or specialized functions. The following documents are required for processing the request for this visa. Employment visa is extendable in India by the concerned FRRO.
- § Appointment Letter, in original, specifying the terms and conditions of employment, from the prospective employer in India including the pay structure, nature of job, period.
- § Recommendation Letter from the present employer in Indonesia.
- § Bio-data/CV/Resume (Qualification and work experience) of the applicant.
- § Certificate of Registration of the Company with the Registrar of Companies in India.
- § Confirmed ticket
- § Justification letter from the employer for the need to hire a foreigner
- § The applicant should draw a minimum salary of US $ 2,100 per month under the term of Employment Contract.
Clearance from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), Government of India is required for applicants seeking employment visa to work offshore in oil fields.Clearance from the Ministry of Civil Aviation, Government of India is required for Pilots seeking to work in India, for renewal of their license.Non-Indonesian nationals are required to get Employment Visa from the country of their origin or from a country of permanent residence of more than two years.Employment visa is extendable in India by FRRO/Immigration Department, subject to security check, payment of tax and compliance with other registration formalities. Registration is mandatory immediately on arrival in India and in any case within fourteen (14) days on arrival. The complete address of the company where the applicant will be working in India should be mentioned clearly along with the period of employment.
Entry Visa:
Entry Visa is granted to foreign spouse/children of Indian nationals particularly those who want to live in India. Foreigners residing in India can also invite their family (spouse and children), with the written consent from their host institution/organization, to stay with him on the basis of his valid Indian visa. The Entry Visa can be granted for a maximum period of one year with multiple entries, which is extendable in India by the FRRO/Immigration Department.
The following documents are required for processing the visa.
- § Marriage Certificate in case of spouse/ Birth Certificate in case of child (Original Certificates should be produced for verification along with copies)
- § Confirmed ticket
- § Copy of Indian passport / copy of passport with valid Indian visa
- § Sponsorship Letter from the spouse for stay in India
Student Visa:
It is issued to bona fide students to pursue regular higher studies of recognized course from recognized institutions in India. Please contact Education Section first for prior approval before applying to Consular Section for Students Visa. The applicant should apply in advance (two weeks) to get the application approved from Education Section and subsequently present to Consular Section for visa processing. The documents necessary for processing this visa are:
- § Letter of Provisional Admission, in original, for a recognized course from the recognized educational institute in India.
- § Degree/certificate and transcript of marks/GPA obtained in the last qualifying examination, based on which admission is granted.
- § Payment receipt of all school/University fees including Tuition fee.
- § Bank statement of the student/parents/guardian for the last six months.
- § Two passport size photographs
- § Sponsorship letter from the parent/guardian
- § Curriculum Vitae
- § Course curriculum (for short term courses & courses other than the regular school/ university course)
- § Recommendation/ reference letter if any
- § FRRO registration for the students already studying in India
- § Confirmed ticket.
- § In case of admission in medical or paramedical courses in India, a letter of Approval or No objection certificate from the Ministry of Health, Government of India, is also required. Similarly, for admission to graduate or post-graduate courses in engineering/ technical institutions in India, a letter of approval or a No objection certificate from the Ministry of Human Resources Development (Department of Education) is required.
Studying under Tourist visa is illegal. Tourist Visa cannot be converted to Student visa.
Student Visa would be granted for full term of the course. Student visa for primary education will not be entertained. Bona fide certificate issued by the educational authorities in India should indicate the full name of the College/Institute, Address, email id / telephone no. / website address, term of the course as well as the relevant year in which the applicant would be pursuing the course.
Submission of proof of Academic records in respect of education completed is necessary.
Research Visa:
Foreigners desiring to undertake research work in India must apply (6 copies) in the prescribed format, at least three months in advance, to the Secretary, Department of Education, Ministry of Human Resource development, Government of India, New Delhi giving full bio data and synopsis of the thesis. Approval of Ministry of Human Resources Development (Department of Education), New Delhi, should accompany the visa application. The validity of the visa would coincide with the research period.
The application should accompany with the following documents:
- § Letter of Provisional Admission, in original, for a recognized course from the recognized educational institute in India
- § Degree/Certificate and transcript of marks/GPA obtained in the last qualifying examination, based on which admission is granted
- § Synopsis of thesis / research subject
- § Details of the places to be visited in India with duration of stay at each place in connection with research work
- § Payment receipt of all school/University fees including Tuition fee
- § Bank statement of the student/parents/guardian for the last six months
- § Two passport size photographs (4x4 cm)
- § Sponsorship letter from the parent/guardian
- § Curriculum Vitae
- § Course curriculum (for short term courses & courses other than the regular school/university course)
- § Recommendation/ reference letter if any
- § FRRO registration for the students already studying in India
- § Confirmed return ticket or print out of the confirmed to and fro journey

Journalist Visa:
Journalist visa is issued to professional journalists and photographers representing recognized electronic or print media. Please contact Information Wing of the Consulate for prior approval before applying for visa in Consular Section. The applicant must apply well in advance. The documents required are as under :
- § Confirmed return ticket or print out of the confirmed to and fro journey.
- § Recommendation letter from the employer.
Letter from the Indian office of the employer of his associate in India.
Conference Visa:
Conference Visa is issued for the participation in international conferences/seminars/workshops/meetings/symposia being organized by Government bodies, International organizations, public sector units and NGOs in India. The application for this visa should be cleared by relevant Ministries
- § Administrative approval from nodal Ministry/ Department
- § Clearance from Central/concerned State Government
- § Political clearance from Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), Coordination Division
- § Event clearance from Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) and security clearance wherever required and accompanied by the following documents :
- 1. A letter of invitation from the Indian organizer of the conference.
- 2. A letter of recommendation from the institution in Indonesia with whom the applicant is affiliated.
- 3. Confirmed return ticket or print out of the confirmed to and fro journey.
It is the responsibility of organizers to obtain clearances through the nodal ministries from MHA and MEA before sending invitation to foreign participants. Applicants are advised to apply well in advance and ensure that the organizers have obtained necessary approval from Government of India.
Visa for Sportspersons:
It comes under Entry Visa where the invitation to sports persons to visit India for participating in International competitions in India is extended by concerned Sports Federation/ Association in India after obtaining approval of the Govt. of India in the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports in consultation with Ministry of External Affairs and Ministry of Home Affairs. Members of Sports delegations to attend meetings of International level to be held in India with the concurrence of Government of India are given Conference Visa with prior intimation from Department of Sports & Youth Affairs. The Organizers should obtain approval from the above Ministry before inviting foreign Sports persons/teams.
