Do not hike or climb alone. In mountainous areas, check the latest conditions, use a licensed guide (mandatory on many routes), carry overseas medical insurance, and keep a local mobile phone. Some hazardous trails may be poorly marked. Please note that in case of a mishap/accident during these activities, the emergency medical response is not satisfactory and it may take considerable time due to large number of tourists.
- Boat and ferry accidents have been occurring more frequently. Many vessels are not equipped with sufficient life jackets. Passengers are advised to carry their own. Tourists are advised to board boats only at official government-supervised ports: Sanur, Serangan, Benoa, Tanjung Benoa, and Kedonganan. These ports are monitored by the authorities which enables quick coordination with search and rescue teams in case of emergencies. Departures are suspended during unsafe weather conditions. Avoid using unofficial ports, as boats from these locations are not tracked and may face delays in rescue efforts.
