The majority of population in Central Sulawesi is working in the agriculture sector, their products include rice, sugarcane, copra (dried coconut meat), and rattan. On the forestry products there are ironwood and ebony with notable manufacturing enterprises include wood carving, rice milling, pharmaceuticals products, woven mats and baskets, and palm oil.
There are three airports in the region, in Palu as the capital city, in Poso and in Luwuk. Aside from indigenous ethnic groups, there are various immigrant communities in the area. Among the most prominent of these immigrant groups are the Chinese, the Javanese, the Balinese, and the Batak, as well as peoples from the Lesser Sunda Islands.
