Bali is currently the only remaining stronghold of Hinduism in Indonesia, with life centered on religion. Bali is famous for tourism, as it is well known as the ‘Island of the Gods’ with its traditional culture and natural tourism objects as the main attraction.
The major city in Bali is Denpasar, the provincial capital. Other places of interest are Klungkung, a centre of wood carving and gold and silver industries; Gianyar, with a lively market; Kuta, Sanur, and Nusa Dua, centres of the flourishing tourist trade; and Ubud, in the foothills, a centre for European and American artists, with fine art museums. All Balinese villages are unique and different than other villages in Indonesia, each have their own temples and assembly halls that serves for festivals and markets.
Tourism and handicraft are major industries in Bali along with other agricultural products such as rice and cocoa.
